Could Buddhism and Entrepreneurship Co-exist? – A Phenomenological Exploration in China

This paper uses a phenomenological research method to investigate the impacts of Buddhist beliefs and practices on entrepreneurs. Six entrepreneurs with Buddhist beliefs in China were interviewed to help us arrive at our propositions. The data analysis procedure was implemented following Moustakas’ (Moustakas 1994) guidelines, with observa-tion of Creswell’s (Creswell, 2007) modification. Results indicate that Buddhism impacts on the cognition and decision making of Buddhist entrepreneurs vary depending on individual entrepreneur’s personality, industry and social environment.
